When is the best time to visit Rwanda?

From June to September and then again in January and February, trekking conditions are ideal - perfect for spotting gorillas and chimpanzees! No matter when you visit however, it's sure to be an unforgettable journey through this year-round destination.

When is the best time to go Gorilla Trekking?

For the best gorilla trekking experience, plan your visit during Rwanda’s dry seasons. Enjoy sightings of these majestic creatures from mid-December to mid-February and then again from June through September; however, wet weather may make a trip more challenging during March through May and late September until December when rains are heaviest in this region.

What are the age limits for Gorilla Trekking?

Please note that children under 15 are not permitted on gorilla treks. A gorilla-trekking permit is also essential.

How long will I get to spend with the gorillas?

Depending on everyone's fitness level and the location of the gorillas, they will be divided into groups to set out for short, medium or long treks. These journeys can last up to three hours but may sometimes exceed that time - offering a unique glimpse at wildlife and stunning nature views along with lifelong memories!

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans), which is located in Rwanda's far northwest, guards the jagged, densely forested slopes of the spectacular Virunga mountain range.


Only a three-hour drive from Kigali International Airport, Rwanda's Virunga Mountains are home to rare mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Observing a mountain gorilla in its native environment is one of the most exciting and unforgettable wildlife encounters. The lush slopes of these volcanoes provide a spectacular natural setting. On the Rwandan Virungas' slopes, around half of the world's wild mountain gorilla population resides.


SOUTH AFRICA

MASAI MARA NATIONAL PARK

The Masai Mara National Reserve spans 1,510 square kilometres and is situated in the southwest of Kenya (583 square miles). It is home to an abundance of species and unending plains.


The traditional Masai Mara safari offers a variety of activities because the reserve is home to a magnificent year-round concentration of game, including the over two million wildebeest, zebras, and other antelopes that make up the well-known Great Migration.


The reserve is a photographer's and naturalist's paradise with its abundance of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, and cheetah in addition to migratory wildebeest and zebra. Leopards are frequently spotted, black rhinoceroses, which are endangered, hide in thick vegetation, and the Mara River is home to enormous crocodiles and rafts of hippopotamuses.

Kigali

Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, is the ideal place to begin your life-changing gorilla trek, one of Africa's most exhilarating adventures.


Rwanda's thriving capital Kigali is where the country's sole international airport is located. The vibrant and colourful metropolis sprawls across picturesque slopes and valleys, with the government district situated on one hill and the city centre high above another.


Mount Kigali, the tallest hill, is 1,850 metres (6,075 ft) above sea level. The Genocide Memorial Centre, the fruit market, lunch at the Hotel Mille Collines (of Hotel Rwanda renown), and a motorbike taxi trip across the city are some of the city's highlights.

Akagera National Park

The animal experience provided by Akagera National Park is simply amazing. It is Rwanda's only Big-5 reserve and is home to the Sitatunga, a rare swamp animal, may be found.


The rare Shoebill stork, the endangered Papyrus Gonolex, and the Red-faced Barbet are just a few of the many birds that visitors can observe. Akagera is one of the top birding environments in the world with the largest reported number of species per unit area, boasting over 500 recorded species.


The Park is the largest protected wetland in central Africa and includes a rare mix of habitats, including lakes, marshes, savannah, mountains, and woods.
